Five Minute Podcasting

Let’s be honest, you can’t do much in the span of 5 minutes. Or can you? Each day we push the limits of the pendulum swing to squeeze in one more task. So the question is what can I do in 5 minutes?

My podcast, Me Myself and I Radio, often covers heavy topics in a mere 30 minutes. It never feels like enough time. The “ideal” time of a podcast has been a highly debated topic in the podcasting community. The best Podcasters in the world have entire episodes dedicated to this on very concept.

My advice to everyone is record until you feel like you’ve made your point. It is your show for which you are the captain at the helm. When I do not have enough time to listen to my favorite shows at length, I will often look for a shorter episode. So that got me thinking…

Can I record an episode in 5 minutes or less? I wanted to ensure I was putting out enough content which can sometimes be difficult. Enter “Five Minute Fridays.”

Each week I am plagued with an obstacle, or thought process I want to explore more throughly. I do this by defining the word that describes the situation and explore its meaning, the root of the circumstance.

It seemed like a great idea to me, so I rolled with it. I’ve gotten some great feedback very early on, so it seems five minute podcasting is quite effective. This implementation has allowed me to double my weekly content at the expense of 20 minutes a month.

One of the shows I listen to is called “Just The Tip” hosted by the legendary, Tim Wolberg. Every episode of his podcast is  only 5 minutes. In that short amount of time, he is able to jam pack so much information to help podcasters preform better it should be illegal. Tim you are my hero. Thanks for the tips!

So there you have it. It seems you can do a lot in 5 minutes. The question is, what will you do with yours?
