What is Me Myself and I?

By: Anthony Hayes

I’m often asked to explain Me Myself and I and what it means. What do you talk about on your podcast? What is your blog about? The short answer is Oneself. The rabbit hole goes much deeper as you can imagine…

What does MM&i mean to you?

What does Me Myself and I mean to you?

This all unknowingly started a decade ago. I was in a bad place, in a bad relationship, and going nowhere fast.

Writing is something I’ve always done, since middle school; mostly poetry. I painted pictures so vividly with words, my friends and teachers often praised my flare for creativity.

Despite my ambitions, I struggled in school, always using the guidance of a tutor in some capacity. My ADD left me in a constant state of  confusion.

“Silent screams in my virtual dreams how can they not be true?…”

The one thing I’ve come to realize through the years that no matter what I was doing, I felt like I wasn’t pursing my dreams. I was meant for something more. Something bigger than Myself.

For some, quitting your J-O-B and pursuing those dreams, or your ‘direction’ may seem like the only way to find said fulfillment. However as of late, it occurred to me you can have your cake and eat it too.

Just because I can’t be a ‘writer’ per say, doesn’t mean I had to stop ‘writing’ entirely. Or a ‘fighter’ meant I had to stop ‘fighting.’ I had to figure a way to marry all those passions (in turn taking the pressure off myself), and still do them.

When I [recently] accepted the fact that I could have a career AND do the things I love on the side, part time, not getting paid (yet) for them, I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. This is where it gets heavy…We are all 3 people.

  • First is the “Me” element – This is the person you’ve created based on past choices, failures and successes; our Faith.
  • Second is the “Myself” element – The 9-5 guy, The Dad, the person everyone else has come to know.
  • Lastly is…yup you guessed it the “I” element – The part of us that keeps us up at night, the part that will always go out punching striving to be something better, the “I” was meant for something more element, the element that unknowingly sparks the same question in the eyes of another.

I’m not saying you should just settle. You’ve got all the time between now the end of your journey to fulfill your God given density. Whatever that one thing is you always come back to, no matter how long you may put it down for, you can always seem to pick it back up; that is the direction you should go.

The feeling is insatiable as it should be. It is an ever-evolving process, it never ceases. I’ve come to better know my authentic self so much this year through networking with like minded people and trying new things. Journal a bit. You may answer the questions you seek through oneself.

Cleanse yourself of the toxins and negativity in your body.

  1. Your mental self greatly impacts your physically self and visa versa. Practice mindfulness and meditation.
  2. Get back to the basics–Small, consistent actions we take for granted. Drink more water, tea, nice low impact exercise_like yoga ? Something relaxing, but at the same time stimulating.
  3. Get some more sun (natures Prozac). You must use all the elements the universe provides us with.
  4. Learn, read, and try new things. It’s amazing how much you can learn about yourself by experiencing that which you did not know.
  5. Discard what is useless. You are the sum of your 5 closest peers. This may be painful but you may have to say goodbye to some of them. Don’t surround yourself with negative energy.

It’s like being a secret agent as long as it makes you happy, no one else even has to know it exists. It will Flow through you. You will Just Be

Me Myself and I is not any ONE thing, rather parts of a whole. MM&i is the journey we all travel to create our authentic self. So I ask…What does Me Myself and I mean to you? This is only part of my endless story, what chapter are you on in your story?

Comment, email or tweet me your answer to the question: What does Me Myself and I mean to you?” Be sure to include your name and hometown and I will share them on the next podcast for all to hear.

“Control the controllable, as for the rest Keep on flowing…Just be.”
